Before Digging

How to Work Safely Near a Gas Pipeline

The greatest risk to pipelines comes from third-party interference. To prevent this, we ask that you:

Do not dig without authorization

Do not dig or interfere within the boundaries of the right-of-way or near the signage. Also, do not allow others to do so without authorization.

If you have any questions, call us first

Call 800 360 133 and ask for an Electrogas representative to come check if there is a duct and give you instructions.

Coordinate Before Entering with Machinery

Do not drive or excavate with machinery on the right-of-way without prior coordination. Any crossing of the gas pipeline must be reported and authorized.

We're here for you 24 hours a day

Our customer service lines are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

If there is a break or damage to the gas pipeline

A rupture will cause a leak, which in turn will harm people and the environment. If you detect a possible leak, call the emergency number immediately.

What do we do to prevent unauthorized access?

To maintain control of the gas pipeline, we conduct preventive monitoring using:

  • Weekly inspection flights using small planes and drones.
  • Patrols conducted by our own staff along the right-of-ways.
  • Contact with property owners and residents of properties subject to easements, utility companies (electricity, water, gas, and telecommunications), neighborhood associations, municipalities, and their departments of public works.

And we coordinate on an ongoing basis with

    The company

We have been transporting natural gas from the central region since 1998.

We build, operate, and maintain the natural gas pipeline connecting Quintero and Santiago, with 100% availability and in compliance with quality, environmental, and safety standards verified by third parties.

    About Us

A company dedicated to transmitting energy.

ELECTROGAS S.A. provides natural gas and other fuel transportation services. We build, operate, and maintain a natural gas pipeline and related facilities between the Valparaíso Region and the Metropolitan Region.

We operate with 100% availability and maintain service quality in compliance with national and international standards.

In April 2025, Electrogas officially joined OGMP 2.0 (Oil and Gas Methane Partnership), an international initiative led by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). To fulfill this commitment, we contracted the services of INERCO / VIRA GAS, which will detect and quantify fugitive methane emissions at Electrogas’ facilities between San Bernardo and Quintero, including the Maqui Colmo branch line.

Our Role in the Energy System

If the gas pipeline is shut down, it's felt throughout the central region.

We connect the Quintero LNG terminal to Santiago and to the GasAndes pipeline in both directions. Without Electrogas, the piped gas supply to half of Santiago and the Valparaíso Region is cut off, and the power grid suffers, because we also supply the power plants in the central region.
