Before Digging

How to Work Safely Near a Gas Pipeline

The greatest risk to pipelines comes from third-party interference. To prevent this, we ask that you:

Do not dig without authorization

Do not dig or interfere within the boundaries of the right-of-way or near the signage. Also, do not allow others to do so without authorization.

If you have any questions, call us first

Call 800 360 133 and ask for an Electrogas representative to come check if there is a duct and give you instructions.

Coordinate Before Entering with Machinery

Do not drive or excavate with machinery on the right-of-way without prior coordination. Any crossing of the gas pipeline must be reported and authorized.

We're here for you 24 hours a day

If there is a break or damage to the gas pipeline

A rupture will cause a leak, which in turn will harm people and the environment. If you detect a possible leak, call the emergency number immediately.

What do we do to prevent unauthorized access?

To maintain control of the gas pipeline, we conduct preventive monitoring using:

  • Weekly inspection flights using small planes and drones.
  • Patrols conducted by our own staff along the right-of-ways.
  • Contact with property owners and residents of properties subject to easements, utility companies (electricity, water, gas, and telecommunications), neighborhood associations, municipalities, and their departments of public works.

And we coordinate on an ongoing basis with

    Environment

    Mitigate, reforest, and monitor.

Our environmental management system is certified under ISO 14001:2015 by TÜV Rheinland, valid through January 2029. We maintain an annual record of hazardous and non-hazardous waste generated by our operations.

The facilities have undergone environmental assessment, and we comply with the requirements of those regulations through an Environmental Monitoring Plan that divides the gas pipeline into four sectors based on the terrain each one traverses.

Following construction, we revegetated and reforested the right-of-way: more than 40,500 plants and approximately 40 hectares of revegetation, in addition to native species planted in the Lago Peñuelas National Reserve to compensate for the trees that could not be replanted along the right-of-way.

    Flora

Reforestation of the Mala Cara property.

Reforestation efforts at the Mala Cara site: 12.4 hectares and more than 22,000 trees planted alongside the Quintero-Quillota gas pipeline in the Chilicauquén sector of the Puchuncaví municipality.

Reforestation began in late 2009. Since then, Electrogas has overseen and maintained this plantation, which has had a positive impact on the terrestrial ecosystem, resulting in an increased presence of wildlife in the area.
